The winter rapier practice site is working out well. A tournament was held on October 19th, the first practice at the site, and THL Caius and M'Lord Ambrose fought in the finals of the tournament. The victor was M'Lord Ambrose!
Border War was the September stop on the Kingdom Wide Tourney Circuit. It was in Wealdsmere, at Camp Easton. The site was amazing. Full plumbing for all the washrooms, hot showers (about 5 or six of them). The scenery was great, and the fighting was fierce. There was about 16 fighters in total for the scenarios and tournaments, with 2 participants from the circuit being there, Christopher Stanley, and Don Talon. Caius Foxcotte and Conchobar "Conner" were also there representing Dragons Laire.
The day started out glorious, although a bit chilly. After morning court the fighters started to assemble on the green for a full day of fighting. The heavy scenarios were first, and there was a few people that wanted to fight in both the heavy and the rapier activities. It was decided to have the tournament in the afternoon. We started with some general pickups and warmups. After about an hour of that we started doing some scenarios. There was a amphitheater right along the water, it provided a great back drop for some fun and challenging scenarios, plus great seating for those that wanted to watch the fun! There was a save the dignitary scenario that was fought multiple times with different permutations, there was some epic bridge battles and some ships battles that were fought. Much hilarity and fun surrounded these.
After the heavy scenarios, which Conchobar fought valiantly in, were done. The main tournament started which was a double round robin of about 16 fighters. It was a bit slow as those can be with so many fighters, but after some creativity we got things moving along quite quickly. At the end of the fighting there were 2 fighters that were tied for first place. Chrisopher Stanley, and Don Talon. In true Wealdsmere fashion the victor was decided with a best 2 out of 3 Sicilian knife fight. the 2 combatants are tied together with a length of cord, in this case a belt. They then fight to the "death". If the arm that is tied is taken then it goes limp, if the weapon arms is taken then the weapon is switched and the "dead" limb is tied up. It was very entertaining and after 2 passes, Don Talon emerged victorious. Caius tied for 3rd, and Conchobar was 5th.
Having fought for almost 6 hours straight, most people were to tired for pickups after the tournament. After dinner and court the was much socializing and conversation that happened. It was a great event, awesome site, and some really great fighting!
Huzzah for the fighters of Dragons Laire, we were well represented!
Stay tuned for the next tournament!
Yours in Service, Don Talon

The Rapier tourney for Junefaire was AWESOME! We had 27 fighters for the tournament, 6 from the rapier circuit, and 6 white scarves. It was divided into 2 fields and a round robin was fought and the top 4 from each field moved onto the next round. The next round was a double elimination tourney fought with single sword only, double kills being destructive. The final round was best 2 out of three with your best style. Gracion and Tora were in the finals with Tora emerging victorious! The weather was fantastic, and the fighting was great. The tourney took a little longer then was expected as there was some initial communication issues relating to the erics. Lists took at bit longer to get going then anticipated so there weren't any further scenarios on the main field. there as a dueling tourney that took place in the merchant area with about 6 people participating in that. Tora also was victorious in that tournament. On Sunday there was some very good pickup fighting!
