Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire,
We want to thank those who supported us and the Barony at Twelfth Night in the Canton of Silverhart. It was a lengthy drive, but the camaraderie and fellowship of the Baronial Populace was greatly appreciated and valued. The recognition received by various members of the Barony, as well as the Barony itself, was awesome to behold! As usual, the Barony stands as an inspiration to the Kingdom in what it can achieve.
Among the many accolades received that weekend, one definitely stands out! Congratulations unto Arion the Wanderer for the offer made to him to join the Laurels of An Tir! Arion was acknowledged for his extensive research and development of the manufacture of coins, as well as his scholarship in all things Scythian. This accolade also acknowledges his stature and bearing as a Peer. Something we've all seen in him for a while. Well done, Arion!
We also want to thank those who participated in the Tournaments at Ursalmas over the weekend of January 28th and 29th. Dragon's Laire was well represented in the Heavy Combat, Rapier, and Archery Championships. Tokens were given by the hand of Her Excellency to all those who competed for the glory and honour of the Tournaments. We thank you all for the inspiration you brought to the Baronial Populace and bearing you held on the Fields of Combat. It was awesome to behold!
Thank you also to all who participated in assisting Aquaterra hold Ursulmas. It is that service that allows all of us to have the fun that we do. We saw people at gate working hard especially. We were also told of those Dragon's Laire members who stayed until the very end to assist Aquaterra in taking down the event for the year. Your assistance was greatly appreciated.
Finally, thanks to all who participated in the demonstrations to the Modern Public over the weekend at Ursulmas. Through your example and fine displays we increase our membership rolls. Your efforts are what ensures the future of the Society. Thank you for those efforts.
By the time you read this missive, the Dragon's Laire Arts and Sciences, Bardic and Scholar Championships will have taken place at Candlemas. We want to thank all of you who have entered those competitions. As of this missive we have three entrants for the Arts and Sciences Championship, two entrants for the Bardic Championship, and one entrant for the Scholar Championship. We wish all the entrants the best of luck!
We also want to thank the Event Steward, THL Renart the Fox, for shepherding the event. Event Stewards are prized by us as they ensure we actually have the events to attend that we do. We appreciate Renart's efforts on behalf of the event, as well as his efforts with the Culinary and THL Rycheza, to provide food for lunch. Knowing how these good gentles operate, I'm sure the food will be most tasty!
In support of the Championship we especially want to thank THL Madrun for her efforts in corralling the entire process. The Championships are trying out a new model this year, a model that relies on judging to a standard and requires one form of entry. We have high hopes that this will encourage more participation overall and a renewed interest in the Championships themselves. We are especially excited about the Scholar Championship. Research Papers have always been an oddity that never fit well in any category. Giving them their own Championship we hope will encourage more to try their hand at developing research papers on subjects that interest them a great deal.
As a reminder, because of the time needed to judge these Championships and the new format being used, the Feast usually scheduled for Candlemas was curtailed as judging may last some time into the evening.
At Evening Court of Candlemas we will be accepting Letters of Intent for this year's Class of Serjeantry. The newly organized and clarified requirements will be given to the candidates at that time. We urge any considering this challenge to speak to one of the current members of Serjeantry, or to us. For those who formally accept the challenge, we again encourage you to seek the council of both us and the current members of the Serjeantry, THL Alaricus, THL Jahnkin, and THL Madrun.
On February 11th, our brethren in the Shire of Druim Doineann will be hosting Their Majesties at their event of Holly and Ivy. We encourage all the members of the Baronial Populace to attend that day. There will be classes, a fight practice, and a feast to enjoy the day. Our usual reminder, if you plan on competing in one of the Championships, competitions, teaching or displays at Holly and Ivy, please let us know so that we may give the recognition due to those who perform in such challenges.
Recently, Her Excellency started a Project on the Baronial e-list wherein she describes in detail the various awards given by the Baron and Baroness in Dragon's Laire. We hope you take that knowledge and make awards recommendations of those you see around you in the Barony performing their great acts of service or artistry. The giving of awards is the best way for us to show our appreciation for all the hard work and might achievements accomplished by the Baronial Populace.
On February 25th, we will be traveling to the Urban Wilds of Madrone to participate and witness the deeds of valour in their Arts and Sciences Competition. We again encourage as many as possible of the Barony to attend so that they may witness the fantastic feasts of artistry practiced outside the boundaries of Dragon's Laire and bring this knowledge home so as to strengthen our artistic might!
On March 3rd and 4th, in the Shire of Danescombe, the Kingdom Arts & Sciences and Bardic Championships will be held. The term of service of our own Dame Gwenllyn Potter as the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Champion will come to an end. She has served in the name of Arts and Sciences most truly and nobly. Well done, Dame Gwenllyn! We plan on being in attendance for these Trials and hope that others will travel with us.
This brings us to our final topic of this report. In the Barony are many who have been recognized by the Kingdom for their bearing, their experience and their depths of knowledge. These are the Peers of the Kingdom. In the Barony of Dragon's Laire resides a rather large and active group of both Pelicans (who have been recognized for their service to the Kingdom and Society) and Laurels (who have been recognized for their knowledge and artistry). These are people you should seek if you have questions on any aspect of life in these Middle Ages. How to get involved at any level. How to pick up a new art or science. How to develop a deeper level of knowledge in your chosen SCA profession or art form. Utilize their knowledge. They swear an oath to each and every King and Queen of An Tir to promote their knowledge and help develop and maintain the Kingdom to the best of their abilities.
One final note, June Faire is coming, the Thirtieth Anniversary of June Faire. It will be here in FOUR months. Please get involved. We want this to be the most spectacular June Faire ever!

Many thanks to all those who took part in presenting the Dragon's Laire Yule Feast of 2011. Especially to the Autocrat, Lady Kierran Moncrieff. A good time was had by all. The Feast-Crat, Lord Petr Catspawz, also deserves a mighty thanks. The feast was delicious! We are especially grateful for all who attended considering all the other activities happening around the Kingdom of An Tir that same weekend.
When all was said and done, The MIGHTY Barony of Dragon's Laire collected 134 toys in the Toys-For-Tots campaign! That is magnificent! We have not yet heard the number collected by the Barony of Aquaterra, but I think it is safe to say we succeeded in our challenge by bringing in the most toys. Many thanks to THL Jenae, THL Talon and THL Conchobar for organizing and championing the cause. We will have to make sure we start even earlier with the collecting of toys in 2012. I'm positive that the recipients of the toys were extremely appreciative!!! It will also be great word-fame for the Kingdom when the King and Queen of An Tir recite the toys collected by their Kingdom at Estrella War's Grand Court. An Tir’s generosity will indeed shine!
The following Saturday, December 10th, was held the Dragon's Laire Serjeantry Trials for 2011. It was a long and arduous day for the candidates, as well as the testers. We are incredibly grateful to all those who gave of their time to test the candidates on their abilities. Especially those who drove some distance in order to attend and lend their services. We are also grateful to all those who willingly gave of their time to support the event itself with their attendance and their labors. As well as to those who attended to lend their strength and support to the two candidates undergoing the Trials themselves. We were pleased with the results and felt it a great re-boot to the endeavour of Serjeantry all together. Thank You!!!
A special thanks to Lady Adelheidi for autocratting the Serjeantry Trials so that we could concentrate on the Trials themselves. Another to Dame Ellen Fraser for keeping the Trials as organized and on time as possible. And last, another special thanks to THL Theodoric and Lady Aileen for organizing the lunch. It was extremely gratifying to not have to leave the site mid-day as there was a lot to do on the agenda. A few moments to relax and eat good food was greatly appreciated!
The two candidates undergoing Serjeantry Trials that day, THL Jahnkin de Leeuw and THL Madrun y Gwehyddes, both passed the Trials and advanced to the next challenge to be undertaken before formally being admitted into the Serjeantry of Dragon's Laire. For the next step in the journey of Serjeantry, they accepted Quests lasting a duration of six months and it is hoped that they will join us at the Round Table at June Faire in order to relate the stories of their quests before being given their cloaks.
THL Jahnkin and THL Madrun were joined at the Trials by THL Alaricus Simmonds in the declaration of their Quests for this year. All three Quests were impressive in scope and style and will be an inspiration to all who witness their efforts and their conclusion. We wish all three the best of luck! We ask all the members of the populace to stand witness to their deeds of valor and sacrifice in their Quests for Knowledge, Strength and Wisdom. Please approach them with your encouragement, and your questions.
At Candlemas we will be accepting Letters of Intent for this year's Serjeantry class. We have been passing out booklets with previews of what is expected for the Trials and the Quests in order to be named members. The Letters of Intent must show an ability to perform calligraphy and will give the name under which the Trials will be undertaken, the particular branch of Serjeantry they wish to challenge, and particulars of their persona. Please ask us for the details on what should be found in the Letters of Intent. The Challenge of Serjeantry is not to be taken lightly. So please make sure you are informed of what is involved before making your declaration and investing the time needed to produce your letter.
This weekend is Twelfth Night in the distant Canton of Silverhart, where we will witness the new King and Queen of An Tir ascending the Lion's Thrones! Twelfth Night is also where the Kingdom Rapier Championship is held. If you are considering entering the Championship, please let us know so that we may honour you accordingly with tokens and enough notice at the Tournament itself to ensure you know how much your presence in it is appreciated! Don't forget one of our primary guiding rules, that those who enter a Championship, competition or any other display bring honour and recognition not only to themselves, but to the Barony they represent. We are quite proud of the citizens of Dragon's Laire. You do us honour in all of your endeavors and we wish to recognize you accordingly. At this time we know of two, possibly three, members of the Populace as probably entrants to the Championship, THL Caius Foxcotte, THL Morrigan Graham, and M'Lord Albrecht.
Ursulmas in Aquaterra will be the weekend of January 27th - 29th at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. We plan on attending on Saturday, January 28th, and will make a Baronial enclave somewhere around the Erics. If you plan on attending, please feel free to make your home within this Baronial area. We want to see as many from the Baronial Populace as possible in attendance.
If you plan on competing in one of the Championships, competitions or displays at Ursulmas, please let us know so that we may give the recognition due to those who perform in such challenges. As a reminder, we take this seriously. Undertaking any task such as this brings honour not only to yourself, but to the branch you represent as well as to the Kingdom as a whole. We are proud of the Populace of Dragon's Laire and want to ensure with our presence and our words that all recognize the strength and greatness that is Dragon's Laire!
We seek awards recommendations! The giving of awards is the best way for us to show our appreciation for all the hard work and might achievements accomplished by the Baronial Populace. Since we cannot be in all places at all times, we need you to send us your recommendations for those people whom you feel deserve that extra attention and acknowledgement for what they do. Please let us know who we should recognize for their works!
February 4th is the Baronial Candlemas Celebration. This year we changed the format of Candlemas somewhat to
accommodate three Championships: Arts & Sciences, Bardic and Scholar. Because of the time needed to judge these
Championships and the new format being used, the Feast usually scheduled for Candlemas was curtailed as judging may
last some time into the evening. This is why we made Yule Feast a Championship-free event, so that the Baronial
Populace could come together in fellowship in a relaxed setting without the stress of having a Championship around
which to maneuver. We are quite excite about the possibilities inherent in the new Championship format. Please come
and witness it. We could also use some help in set up and other duties typically needed at such an event. If you can
help, please contact the Autocrat, THL Renart the Fox, at

Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire!
We want to start off our December letter by thanking those who have promoted and are motivated to support the Toys-For-Tots campaign. It is a worthy cause and we want to encourage all with the ability to participate in any way possible. Even if you do not have the means to purchase a toy at this time, your enthusiasm and support would be appreciated just the same.
Thank you to THL Conchobar for organizing the Toys-For-Tots Championship at the Fight Practice of November 30th. It pulled in our first set of thirteen toys. The Championship itself was well represented by both the Rapier and Heavy enthusiasts. We congratulate M'Lord Ambrose for being the victory of the Rapier Tourney and Master Cedric for being the victor of the Heavy Tournament.
However, that was just the beginning. Toys will be collected at the December Business Meeting and the first several
Social Nights of December. At Yule Feast several activities are planned to promote the Toys-For-Tots campaign and we
hope as many as possible will choose to participate. THL Jenae will be collecting all of the toys for the drive and
ensuring that they reach their proper destination. If you cannot make it to one of our upcoming gatherings to drop
off a toy, please contact THL Jenae to make arrangements to do so. Her e-mail address is
Don't forget also about the challenge to The Barony of Aquaterra to see who could collect the most toys in support of the Toys-For-Tots program! No matter who collects the largest number, the recipients of the toys are the winners. But at the same time it would be a great thing to be able to travel to Twelfth Night in January and declare Dragon's Laire's might in the pursuit of toys! :-) It also supports the word-fame of the Kingdom of An Tir at Estrella War as the recitation of the number of toys collected by each Kingdom is a high point in the Grand Court. We want An Tir to shine brightly in that recitation!
This Saturday, December 3rd, is the Baronial Yule Feast! Lord Petr Catspawz has a magnificent feast planned. His reputation and history ensure that the food will be tasty and plentiful. We are very much looking forward to sampling his cooking expertise. THL Kierran has a fun day planned for the event as well. Come prepared to have a good time! Because we wanted a day of fun, food and fellowship we decided to move the Championship off of the Yule Feast schedule so that we could spend some time gathering with our Baronial Family. The Yule season is particularly suited for just such gatherings. We encourage you to take advantage and meet the other members of your Baronial Family!
December 10th is the date for Serjeantry Trials. THL Jahnkin de Leeuw is challenging for the position of Sargent of Dragon's Laire. THL Madrun y Gwehyddes is challenging for the position of Courtier of Dragon's Laire. Both of these good gentles have worked incredibly hard learning a vast amount of knowledge and gaining experience over the course of the past six months. Some of their testing has been achieved, but on December 10th the final day of testing and trials will take place. If both of these candidates pass the Trials, they, along with Sargent Alaricus Simmonds, will declare the Quest they will then undertake for the next six month and we will acknowledge their progression into the next phase of the Program.
It will be a long day of energy focused on these individuals. They could use your support before, during and after the Trials. If you are curious as to what Serjeantry is, and what it takes to become a member, we encourage you to attend and witness the deeds of valor and glory as they culminate in the Trials of this day.
Assistance in set up, break down and miscellaneous tasks over the course of the day would be appreciated. Please keep
in mind that the during the day there will be times of great intensity on the part of the judges and the candidates.
Please come prepared with quiet activities. THL Theodoric the Scholar is preparing a lunch (for a small fee). If you
have any questions on the event, please do not hesitate to ask either ourselves or the Autocrat, THL Adelheidi, who
can be reach at either
Looking forward into January, we see Twelfth Night on the horizon. It is a long journey to Silverhart, but the occasion will be glorious as we see the new King and Queen of An Tir ascend the Lion's Thrones!
We hope you all enjoy the holiday season, no matter what holiday you celebrate. We wish you all prosperity and hope for the upcoming new year, 2012.

Greetings Unto the Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire,
We want to send our best wishes of peace to Her Excellency Amanda Kendal of Westmoreland as she battles cancer. Many who are new to the Barony and the SCA may not know of her, her history, and her deeds; the telling of which would take untold amounts of space in this letter. But this former Princess of Tir Righ, who wore the coronet as Baroness of Lion’s Gate for over twenty-six years, is the icon of what the SCA strives to be. Her grace and royal bearing. Her gentle nature and tenacity of spirit. She is what we all strive to be in our hearts. All our best go to her in this time of trial.
We want to thank all those who took part in the Arts and Sciences Day Camp of October 29th. By all definitions it was a huge success! The VFW Hall was filled to capacity with many who attended to learn new skills in the arts. To compare notes and processes. Or to just 'geek out' with like-minded people. Many thanks to THL Madrun for being the driving force behind the event. We look forward to doing this again next Spring.
Thank you to THL Ronan for being the driving force behind the search and discovery of an indoor fight practice location for use over the winter months. This has been something on which we've wanted for many years. Kitsap County does not have an abundance of locations to hold practices at a reasonable price, and there was a little 'soul searching' before committing the funds needed to secure the site. But we've attended several of the practices now and are of the opinion that it was a good idea. We will reap the benefits of having this available next Spring when our fighters march out on to the War Fields of An Tir prepared to do battle. They will not have to recondition, or relearn their skills. They will be ready for WAR!
This Fall and Winter we are encouraging all to take part in the scribal arts. It is the scroll work of the Barony that we are grateful to give to the recipients as recognition for all they do in support of the Barony. Over the month of November, THL Gabrielle will be hosting scribal workshops on the Tuesday evening Socials. We will be in attendance and lending a hand to produce the scrolls. We would like to encourage those with an interest in calligraphy to come and speak with us so we may organize a workshop or two with THL Gabrielle. Calligraphy and the creation of Master Scrolls is the next step. All who are interested in the painting of charters have the ability to take that next step. Let's get together and encourage each other to do so.
November 12th will see An Tir's Fall Crown Council, hosted by the Shire of Wyewood. This is primarily a day of administrivia to support the Kingdom, primarily filled with meetings. We will be in attendance and will report back the actions of the day. The Court will be epic as a number of peerage elevations are planned. If you have any questions on what this event is, or if you are considering attending and want to know more, please speak with us and will fill you in on the details.
On November 30th, THL Conchobar would like to sponsor a 'Toys-For-Tots Tournament' at the Fight Practice, for both the Heavy and Rapier fighters. We support this completely and hope that many will attend and contribute toys. The Toys-For- Tots program is a worthy civic endeavor to support. It is also important to the word-fame of the Barony as the number of toys collected by each branch of the Kingdom is tallied and the totals recited at Estrella War each year. We want An Tir to be at the forefront of recognition for supporting Toys-For-Tots! Please consider taking part.
December 3rd is the date of our annual Yule Feast. Lady Kierran is the Autocrat, with Lord Petr as the Feastocrat. With them in charge you know the food will be delicious! To celebrate the Yule Season in fellowship, with a chance to relax and spend time with each other, our Baronial Family, we have moved the Championship (Bardic Championship) to Candlemas. The focus this year at Yule will be fellowship and fun. Lady Kierran has many fun activities planned. We hope you will join us that day.
December 10th is our day for Serjeantry Trials. At this time there are two candidates, THL Jahnkin and THL Madrun. They have worked hard since June Faire to learn all the knowledge they will need to pass the Trials. Both they, and we, can most certainly use your help that day. We will need help in setting up the hall. In the testing of the candidates. We are also looking for people who would consider hosting a small lunch and organizing a potluck for the evening meal, such as was done for the recent A&S Day Camp. The day will be a busy one and we could surely use the help.
At the end of the day will be a small Court where the candidates who passed the Trials will be declared and they, along with Sargent Alaricus, will declare what their Quest will be over the next six months to complete their journey to become members of the Serjenatry of Dragon's Laire.
We want to thank Dame Ellen Fraser for taking on the role of Serjeantry Secretary for us. We really needed help in keeping things organized and moving forward as smoothly as possible, especially during this time period where we're still working to define what Serjeantry is in the new world of the SCA, and how best to achieve it.
This month marks the end of our first year as your Baron and Baroness. It has been work of epic proportions. But even more importance are the acts of service and of the production of arts and sciences. Generosity is the watchword of the Barony. So also is eagerness and friendship. We are humbled by all that you do and will work even harder this upcoming year to be the best Baron and Baroness we can be in order to represent you to the Kingdom in the best light possible. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to perform this work.
May the season bring you joy and all the gifts the world has to offer.
Many Thanks! Arontius and Laurellen.
Baron and Baroness of Dragon's Laire.

Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire,
September was an amazing month for us as we first witnessed the hard work and talent of the Barony on display at September Crown and then stood watch as the Martiallate Championships of the Barony were decided the following weekend.
Thank you to all who participated on behalf of the Barony at September Crown. From those who organized the Baronial Encampment, to those who helped set up the infrastructure used by the Barony over the weekend, and to those who helped take everything down and pack it away. Your efforts were noticed and appreciated by many. Also noticed were all the activities and meetings and functions members of the Baronial Populace participated in over the weekend. Wherever the Barony shows an interest our presence is sure to be felt. This is one of the greatest strengths of the Barony, which in turn strengthens the Kingdom as a whole.
To all those who took part in the Championships at Last Chance, we salute your efforts! We were impressed not only with the number of people who participated in each of the Championships, but also the caliber of the efforts displayed. For us it was a joy to see so many put forth so much of themselves in pursuit of the title, ‘’Champion of Dragon’s Laire”. We can’t thank you enough. Even if you left the weekend without the title of Champion, you still achieved a worthy goal. You showed your mettle and took that chance and worked to achieve a goal. This in itself is a worthy endeavor and why we salute you.
We especially want to thank those who first stood up and declared for the Thrown Weapons Championship. At first it was looking doubtful that we’d have any participants. But then THL Nidda, THL Jenae, and a couple of other worthy ladies stood up and declared their intent. To those watching from the sidelines, it might have been something worthy of a smile. But we thank the ladies truly and sincerely for stepping up and doing what was good to support the Barony. Thank you.
On October 15th you have two choices of SCA activities in which you can participate: The SCA Corporate Board Meeting in SeaTac, and the Druim Doineann Harvest Feast. The Board meeting will be interesting as a chance to see what is affecting the Society from a National and Global perspective. But if meetings are not something that excites you, we encourage you to travel to the lands of Druim Doineann and attend their Harvest Feast. The food will be good and the company fun. :-) We recently met the Autocrat Lady Eriu O’Tuathail and I can just about guarantee that you’ll have a good time.
In October we have the Baronial Arts and Sciences Day Camp. The VFW Hall was very apologetic about double-booking us on the 22nd and were grateful that we were willing to allow the Day Camp to move to October 29th. Please plan on attending. This is a day for getting together in friendship and working on ongoing projects, or learning a new skill. The Day Camp will start at 9AM. Originally it was slated to end at 6PM, but the VFW folks are allowing us to have the hall for as long as we want that Saturday. So if you have a project that you want to continue, the Hall is available. If there is enough interest maybe we’ll do a potluck or something. As part of the Day Camp, Her Excellency will be hosting a ‘Second Age of Arontius and Laurellen’ clothing workshop, complete with books and pattern making. There will also be a largess lecture by Tsuruko Sensei as well as easy largess projects to pick up and take home. Her Excellency will also be hosting a quick fingerloop braid class and will have the thread for it available. Fingerloop braiding is a very period type of trim and is great for largess! There has also been discussion of holding a silk banner painting gathering. There might even be music if we can convince even a couple of musicians to come to practice.
The Fall we want to encourage all who can to get involved in the scribal arts. It is actually a lot of fun to create art that will be cherished by those who receive the awards in Court. Many of these are immediately put into frames and displayed on the walls of people’s homes as a sign of accomplishment. These awards recognize the hard work and good deeds of the many gentles who make up the Populace of Dragon’s Laire. Please consider donating some of your time and energy into producing this artwork so that we can continue to provide this recognition.
This Fall is also the build up towards the Serjeantry Trials, which are scheduled to happen on December 10th. The Serjeantry candidates have been working hard in their learning of knowledge and practicing of the skills they will need to perform well at the Trials themselves. We continue to encourage all of the Populace to witness their deeds and give them, and us, your input. Help them in their quests to become Sargents and Courtiers.
Yule Feast is fast approaching. Lord Petr and Lady Kierran will provide a most magnificent feast, as they always do. This year there is no Championship in the schedule at Yule Feast, so we want to schedule a day of fun and frivolity in celebration of the season. Lady Kierran has been doing a good job of gathering the input of the Populace in putting together activities in which they’ll want to participate. Please get involved. We want to make this a day of fun.
Congratulations unto THL Madrun and Lady Magdalena for being named as the Co-Chairs of June Faire, 2012. Both are highly motivated with lots of good ideas. June Faire 2012 will be our best one ever!
January will be here before you know it and it will be time to make the long journey to Twelfth Night in Idaho. If you plan on making the journey, please let us know. We’ll most likely have a Baronial gathering of some kind. The Kingdom Rapier Championship will also be decided at Twelfth Night and we definitely want to encourage any of our Populace who plan on participating to let us know. As we remind people often, participating in a Championship, competition, display or anything that demonstrates YOU brings honour not only to yourself, but to the Barony in which you live and of which you are a member. We want people to remember Dragons’ Laire!
Many thanks to the Populace of Dragon’s Laire. YOU are what make this such a vibrant and exciting place in which to live. Long Live Dragon’s Laire! The Greatest Barony in the Kingdom of An Tir!

Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire,
It is with a sense of pride that as we travel about the Kingdom we see the Populace of Dragon's Laire hard at work lending a hand to the Crown, and to whatever event at which they are attending. We wish to thank you for that 'Service To The Dream'. It is more than just a fancy slogan, it is what makes the Society the great place it is. Thank you.
The Baronial Picnic / Summer Madness was a lot of fun. We learned much about what should and shouldn't be done when stretching it out to a weekend in length. There is already someone interested in bidding the event for 2012 and we are excited to see what becomes of the concept. Many thanks to all who attended and participated this year. We want to thank THL Jahnkin for organizing the event, and especially thank Lord Petr and Lady Kierran for providing their talents at the grill for the picnic itself. The day was relaxing and the Siege A&S contest was especially fun.
Epic tales of valor and heroic deeds were spoken of Dragon's Laire's participation at Autumn War. Dragon's Laire's efforts made the day great! Thank you to all who participated. Special thanks to THL Jahnkin for leading the Dragon's Laire war band. Also a special thank-you to M'Lady Jess for organizing the Baronial Encampment at Autumn War.
The weekend of August 18-21 was Sport of Kings and a large number of the Dragon's Laire populace were in attendance. We learned much of the arts of fighting and war. But we also learned much of pageantry and how acts of Chivalry and Honor can heighten the sense of the Medieval Romance we all strive to create in the SCA. We'd like to incorporate some of the lessons we learned at Sport of Kings in more of our events here in Dragon's Laire and we ask all of our Populace to see what they can do to add to the Pageantry of our events.
Many thanks to our retinue for supporting us this summer at the various events to which we traveled. We could not have kept up the fast pace if not for their efforts. Many thanks to Tsuruko Sensei, Dame Gwenllyn and Her Ladyship Madrun for traveling with us, providing support in our set up and maintenance at events, and many other miscellaneous tasks that came up along the way. We can't thank you enough for all your efforts.
This upcoming weekend of September 2-5 is September Crown in the Barony of Glymm Mere. The Baronial Encampment is the largest yet and we look forward to camping with the Populace over the weekend. Many thanks to THL Mateusz for organizing the encampment. Also a big thank you to M'Lord Myrick and Lady Aileen and all the others who stepped up to help His Lordship when it was discovered he cannot camp with the Barony for the weekend. It is a good feeling to see the Barony come together and support when needed. Thank you to all.
We are looking forward as well to both the Baronial Bardic on Sunday evening of Crown (Dame Gwen the Potter will have copies of the 'Baronial' song book available) and the Baronial Breakfast on Monday morning. Bring your own songbooks, as well as something to share. If you also have the opportunity to bring some firewood to add to the fire pit, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Our usual reminder - If you are competing in the Crown Tournament, or any other competition or display at September Crown, please let us know so that we may honor you appropriately. The act of competing or performing service or display of your talents in education brings honor not only to yourself but to the Barony of which you represent.
The weekend after September Crown, September 9-11, is Last Chance at the Silver Spurs Saddle Club (across the street from the Fairgrounds in Bremerton). This is where the Martiallate Champions of the Barony are decided in combat, including Heavy, Rapier, Archery, Thrown Weapons, and Youth Combat. We encourage all of the Populace to attend and participate. Even if you would not compete, adding your voice to the others of the Barony in encouragement of those competing, is a valuable service. Please join us.
Please also join us in the potluck feast at the end of the day on Saturday. It is solely a potluck this year and we encourage all in the Barony to try out those special culinary creations for the feast.
The October A&S Daycamp is coming, this October 22nd! This is a day for getting together and working on projects or learning a new skill. This day event will be held at the VFW hall, starting at 9AM and going until 6PM. Her Excellency will be hosting a Second Age of Arontius & Laurellen clothing workshop, complete with books and pattern making. There will also be a largess lecture by Tsuruko Sensei as well as easy largess projects to pick up and take home and love and work on. Her Excellency will also host a quick fingerloop braid class and have thread available. Fingerloop braid is a very period type of trim and is great for largess!
Something you are going to see a lot of from us this fall and winter, besides Serjeantry, are requests for help in the Scribal Arts. We recognize the hard work of the Baronial Populace by the giving of awards. All awards given deserve to have scrolls also given to honor that recognition. The Populace of Dragon's Laire works hard and there are a lot of you performing that work. We'd like to give out even more scrolls to recognize these efforts, but to do that we really need more artists to draw charters for the awards we'd like to give out. And more painters and calligraphers to complete the artistry involved in completing scrolls. Please come talk to us, or the Baronial Scribe Gabrielle, to get involved.
The Baronial Seneschal, THL Oliver, has provided information on those interested in applying to form the June Faire Board of Directors for 2012. We encourage anyone interested in being on the Board to ask questions. Of the Seneschal. Of us. Of those who have served on the Board in the past. It is a very rewarding job and can be a lot of fun as well.
We also want to encourage everyone in the Barony to be on the hunt for new event sites. Kitsap County is a difficult place in which to find a suitable site to hold events, especially large ones like June Faire or Crown Events. If you have contact with someone with a large piece of land suitable for an event, we encourage you to speak to them about allowing us to utilize that space. We are very good tenants with a long track record of taking good care of the sites we use. If you have any questions on this, please see THL Oliver or ourselves.
Finally, we continue to encourage everyone to witness the deeds of the Serjeantry Candidates as they continue forward in their quest to become Sargents and Courtiers. The culmination of their efforts to learn and grow will be the Serjeantry Trials themselves, which are currently scheduled to happen in December (tentatively the second weekend of December). After the completion of Last Chance, you will see much more discussion from us concerning the endeavors of the candidates and the various aspects of the Trials themselves. If you have any questions, please ask either the candidates or ourselves. Please wish them all well.
Many, many thanks to the Populace of Dragon's Laire for all that you do. Your efforts are seen and appreciated! Long Live Dragon's Laire! The Greatest Barony in the Kingdom of An Tir!
