| Order of the Wyvern First Polling Order of Dragons Laire The Order of the Wyvern actually predates the creation of the Barony. Created in the early days of the Shire of Dragons Laire, it was elevated to a Baronial order upon recognition of Dragon's Laire as a Barony. Awarded to individuals for service to the Barony above and beyond the call of duty. Members are chosen for their consistent and on-going service to Dragons Laire. Members of the order have contributed years of service as officers, autocrats, broom wranglers and pot scrubbers and continue to do so. Our own Baron Ralg (and home grown Pelican) heads the order. As a polling order, current members recommend selected individuals for admission to the Order to the Coronets. Although Wyvern meetings are restricted to members of the order, anyone with recommendations or requests of the Wyverns Council may ask a member of the order to bring it before the council.

HL Serena's eldest son, Lon, carries Serena's Wyvern medallion as a token of her and of this medieval game of chivalry in which she played. I remember well when we found it. Victor, Lon and I were cleaning up her dresser and were packing up the jewelry when we ran across the Wyvern medallion. It was one of the cast ones from Anna the Lost. I picked it up and was about to explain what it was when Lon told me that Serena spoke of the day she received it. It was at a June Faire on a hot day on the field. Serena valued her membership into the Order of the Wyvern much more deeply then I thought that she might and spoke of her pride in this to Lon before her end. God forbid that any of us should become so uncaring that inclusion into an Order such as the Wyvern become something unmoving and quickly forgotten, the award thrown into a drawer with other trinkets to gather dust. The SCA is a hobby and a game of course, but it is something that has
the power to affect our lives much more deeply then any of us realize. |
