June Faire is our premiere demonstration event for the public

About June Faire

Their Excellencies Cedric Wlfraven and Brighid Ross, and the people of Dragon's Laire, invite you to join Them in celebrating June Faire's Silver Anniversary. The 25th Anniversary shall feature the 'Champion of June Faire Prize Tournament' in both heavy armor and rapier, as well as archery, thrown weapons and equestrian activities. The Marketplace will be grand and glorious! Bards and period entertainment will abound. The Arts and Sciences Community will put on a grand showing.

This is our annual Demo to the public; please show off your best for the Moderns who attend.

Volunteers are URGENTLY needed to help support June Faire activities. It does not matter how little you think you know, we can use your help. It does not matter if all you can contribute is a couple of hours, your help will be sincerely appreciated! Please contact the June Faire Volunteer Coordinator, Mistress Gwen the Potter.

We are looking for Artisans to demonstrate their crafts at the Arts and Sciences Courtyard (located near the Wedding Pavilion this year). Come and show the SCA and our modern guests your skills as an Artisan. If you’d like to join in the fun, please contact the Arts and Sciences Ministers for June Faire, THL Mad Malcolm and THL Katiana.

The following Artisans have already volunteers to demonstrate and display for June Faire: The Pewter Casters; Ronald Ducat - Pysanky eggs and chain maille; Missa Hendrich - a display of soaps that she makes; Master Grendal – forge work; Alanus and Lady Jorunn - an ‘Everyday Viking Life’ display; the Dragon’s Laire Culinary Guild; the Kingdom Lampworkers Guild; the Kingdom Moniers Guild; THL Raffaella - Venetian hairstyling; Thorfinn - bowstring making; as well as many spinners and weavers who will be advertising their crafts.

Tables will also be set up with static displays; a Laurel's table; the Baron's and Baroness' prize table; some separate works which will display a progression from materials to finished product in leaded stained glass, metal jewelry making, and possibly some basketry. THL Katian is also working on silk painting some of the devices in the Barony.

The Artisans of the Kingdom (through the efforts of our Prize Coordinator, THL Renart) have already donated the following prizes towards June Faire: Master Andras - 1 dozen hand made arrows; Eadric de Lonestone - Drinking Horn; Skadi of Three Trees – ‘Gunnister’ coin purse(s); Ataliana de Segna - hand knit stockings; Katiana Pomfilova - 8 yards Card Weaving; Marquessa Laurellen – ‘Ruffs & Cuffs’ set; Mistress Gwen the Potter - pottery feast gear for 2; Lady Anne - machine embroidered pouches; Oliver Tarney - leather belt pouch; Master Ralg – several wood turned items. If you’d like to contribute YOUR art-work to this worthy endeavour, please contact the June Faire prize coordinator, THL Renart the Fox.

The latest, full and expanded, schedule of combat can be found below. There will be six erics of activity on top of the hill this year! Come and watch the fun and feel the thrill of the fight!

On Saturday, the following is scheduled to take place: an armored double elimination tourney on four erics (in the morning), an armored ‘5 on 5 melee’ (hosted by House Wolfstan) on two erics (in the afternoon), a rapier melee tourney on two erics (in the morning), and a rapier double elimination tourney (in the afternoon). When erics are vacated, fights who wish can work with the marshals on ‘1 on 1’ pick-up fighting for both armored and rapier.

On Sunday, the following is scheduled to take place: the ‘Dragon Meat (Armored) Tourney’ on two erics (in the morning), the ‘Dragon Claw (Rapier) Tourney’ on two erics (in the morning), and a ‘Bounty Tourney’ for both the armored and rapier fighters in the afternoon.

Come one, come all to shop in the finest Medieval Marketplace this area has to offer. Skilled artisans come from far and wide to show and sell their finest wares at this event. This year we have three separate marketplaces. Atop the hill you will feel like you have just stepped back into time as you shop amidst period pavilions with the fighting fields and clank of armor just a stone’s throw away. Down the hill you will find food vendors galore and additional merchants scattered throughout. To make your shopping experience complete, a third marketplace (near the Post Office) will be filled to the brim with the Food Court and even more merchants. If you have been waiting to find that perfect trim, garb that fits, armour, swords, castle décor or accessories suitable for your persona, plus much, much more, this is the event you do not want to miss for all your medieval shopping needs!

Gate Information

June Faire XXV Gate Policy

General: Regardless of which day you arrive at site, it is imperative that you enter through gate as your first order of business. We will have the latest information about parking location and availability. To assist with finding you if problems arise, we are asking you to complete your parking pass and place it on the front passenger side of your dash before leaving the parking area. It is our desire to assist you in being able to relax and enjoy June Faire and not have to worry about your car being towed.

For those of you who know the Pt. Gamble site - gate will be located in the usual place on Friday.

There will be two inbound lanes using NE Pacific Ave, the one on the right (using the parallel parking stalls) is for non pre-registered participants; the one on the left is for Merchants and Pre-registered participants. All must stop at the gate (even pre-registered) to get site handout & parking pass and for pre-registered to get marked off as having arrived. Traffic monitors will redirect traffic to go through town on NE Rainier Ave (main street) if it starts to back up on 104. When traffic gets routed through town, it will be a single inbound lane until past the Wedding Pavilion then 2 lanes, again the right for non pre-registered participants and the left for pre-registered & Merchants. If the left lane is being under utilized it will be opened to non pre-registered traffic, particularly during the peak periods of 3PM to 6PM and when volume spikes due to Ferry traffic.

PLEASE NOTE THAT GATE WILL BE IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION ON SATURDAY & SUNDAY

Saturday morning the gate will re-open using a one way traffic scheme on NE Rainier Ave, to the parking area or to exit via NE Pacific Ave, at 7:30 AM until 6 PM (just after public hours). From 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM there will be an opportunity for people who could not arrive for camping to still get on-site to unload & set-up. Traffic will be prohibited on site after 9:30 AM With the exception of armor drop (see below)

At 9:30 AM the gate will move into the parking area. There will need to be one or two money collectors and one gate keeper. Day-trippers will need to park in the SCA designated areas and sign in at gate after parking but before boarding the shuttle.

For those visiting fighters who do not want to haul their gear from the parking lot there will be a pull through to unload armor by going in along the ball park (on N Teekalet Ave NE) and exiting just below the erics (on N Kitsap Ave NE). There will be an area near the pine trees to stop and unload, maximum 5 minutes. We may need to work with the volunteer coordinator or the Marshals to have some one watch the fighters gear while they park their vehicles.

Sunday the gate will be open (again in the parking area) from 9:30 AM until 3 PM (end of public hours) and the armor drop/pick-up will again be available for fighter's day tripping, using the same traffic schemes as Saturday.

Gate fees:

Please make checks out to "The Barony of Dragon's Laire, SCA Inc. Unless you have pre-registered, you must show your blue membership card with your signature or your copy of The Crier showing expiration date in order to qualify for the member rate.

Gate check-in on Friday: Location is on the main site. Gate opens at 10AM on Friday and closes between 1:00 AM & 3:00 AM depending on volume Saturday morning. (If you arrive after gate closes, please register as soon as the gate opens on Saturday to be sure you have parked in an acceptable location.)

Gate check-in on Saturday: Gate opens at 7:30 AM and closes at 6:00 PM

Gate check-in on Sunday: Gate opens at 9:30 AM and closes at 3 PM.

Information for gate volunteers: Shifts will be 2 hours. Please check in at gate at least 15 minutes before your shift begins. You will receive an orientation as to how gate will be run during your shift and your assignment. During your brief orientation, you will become familiar with the sign-in book and forms for onsite registration, the site fee structure, the latest parking and camping information, and any special instructions. Most gate volunteers will be greeting cars and assisting the occupants with the registration process. During heavy traffic times, at least one person will assist gentles with getting in the correct traffic lane (pre-registration or onsite registration). One person will be designated in charge of the cash box. This person will make change and confirm that the correct amount of fees are being collected. No matter how busy gate is, it is important that time is taken to be accurate and to ensure that no one is under or overcharged and that all waivers and parking passes are completely filled out.

To volunteer for gate: Volunteers are still needed. It would be a great help if you are able to confirm the times when you are available prior to arrival at the event. If this is not possible for you, please stop by gate after you arrive; we will find a place for you. To volunteer, please contact Mistress Gwen the Potter.
