Although Martial activities are perhaps the most visible aspect of SCA life, study of the Arts and Sciences supports every facet of life in the Current Middle Ages.

Without them life would be both less colorful and less comfortable.  What would happen to the pageantry of court and tournament with out the skills of costumers, musicians, and craftsmen in disciplines like banner making, metalwork, woodwork, calligraphy and illumination?  What would the feast be without the culinary arts, dancing or the bardic arts? Above Katiana in red helps a young visitor with a project, Junefaire '05 and below Malcolm takes a break from his artwork.

Each year  Dragons Laire chooses an Arts and Sciences Champion in an extensive and comprehensive competition.  Please contact the A&S officer for current deadlines. For more on our current Champion check out the Champions' Corner, or you can pictures from the most recent championship at A&S Championship Competition.

In 2004, A Bardic Championship was added to the schedule. See Bardic Guild, Bardic Championship Rules and Bardic Judging Forms for more information on the Competition.

A society without the study of arts and sciences is like a star without a sky.

Guild hall - Several sub-groups have been organized within the Barony to study specific aspects of life in the Middle Ages. Often called Guilds after the commercial organizations of Medieval towns, these groups offer classes and an opportunity to work with others in specific areas of interest such as cookery, music, dance, costuming and metalworking as well as acting as another resource.

Library - The Barony maintains a collection of books and videos on useful and entertaining subjects available to the members.  Most are donations from individual members.

Article Archive - This collection of articles on various aspects of the arts and sciences also includes essays on life in the SCA.

Artisan's Arcade- The Barony of Dragons' Laire is the home of many talented artisans. The Arcade showcases some of their work.
